Most of us have experienced or known someone who has gone through depression that lead to self harm and/or suicidal thoughts. It's hard to know how to help them or make them feel better. I know because I've been there. My advice to you is to NEVER tell them you know what they are going through because no one really knows how things are affecting people. If your friend comes to you for help you might feel helpless yourself because it's hard to find ways to help them. If your friend is thinking of suicide I would ask an adult you trust to give you guidance in helping your friend. It may be distressful when you can not help your friend completely but know that being there for them will help them a lot. Remember that you can not help someone who doesn't want help. Being there for them and supporting them can make a good impact on their life.
