Everyone has hard days, but when you have depression every day seems to feel impossible to get through. Going untreated with my depression led me to that day. On October 17th of this year I tried to take my own life. I thought everything was okay. I had moved into a residence hall on the campus of the college of my dreams. I was making great friends, my grades were great, but still, I did not want to be alive. I honestly can’t tell you why.
After I attempted suicide, I spent that weekend in the hospital. Then I went home to visit my family via doctor’s orders. In the weeks following I met with psychiatrists, counselors, and case management personal. I was diagnosed with severe depression and put on anti-depressants. I also started seeing a therapist once a week. These things helps quite a bit. 6 months later I still struggle with the thoughts and feelings of not wanting to go on. The biggest piece of
advice I could give anyone is that it is ok to seek out help. That is the most courageous thing you can do.
